San Antonio Weekend!

Cool weather has finally reached Texas! Actually, we've had a couple of cool weekends here and there, but the temperature inevitably rises back into the 80s later in the week. After this weekend, however, it looks like we're officially knocked out of the 80s. Thank goodness. I enjoy summer weather, but it's November now and the heat was ridiculous.

Ryan and I were able to take advantage of this beautiful weekend by taking a weekend trip to San Antonio!  San Antonio is very interesting...there are many buildings and businesses, but there didn't seem to be a lot of people. There was never any traffic and the crowds on the Riverwalk were very manageable. We've gotten used to a constant bombardment of people in Houston, so it was nice to remember that not all metropolitan areas are packed with 6 million people.

Highlights

San Jose Mission
We just covered missions in social studies. It would be awesome if the students could manage a 6 hour commuting field trip!

I like really old maps. This one was awesome.

The Alamo
I actually didn't take many pictures of the inside of the Alamo. A few of the rooms didn't allow photography, and there was a large crowd when we arrived which made snapping decent pictures quite difficult. Fortunately, we were walking around downtown on Friday night (Halloween!) and a group of women dressed as bunches of grapes took our picture :)

Riverwalk / Food
Let's just say there were a lot of carbs involved in this weekend's trip :) One of my favorite meals was breakfast, of course. Pancake Joe's had rave reviews, and the food did not disappoint! I had Cinnamon Apple Pancakes and a side of bacon. The pancakes were INCREDIBLE.

I was so distracted by the delicious pancakes
that I forgot to look at the camera :)

Along the Riverwalk, many people had prepared displays and altars for the Day of the Dead. This one in particular was honoring Robin Williams.

Tile art along the Riverwalk

Lots of pretty bridges under enormous cypress trees.

This is most certainly NOT a Paleo-themed weekend. If anything, I managed to include as many anti-Paleo foods as possible. My tummy was temporarily happy, but I'm definitely happy to be home and getting back on track. I'm not used to that much sugar and bread!

Question: How did you spend Halloween and the beautiful weekend?

Happy Monday!
